All 75-year-olds know that 1949 was an excellent vintage year for quality. Birth year of this Chrysler Town & Country, too, from Dalfsen in Overijssel.
Well, the car didn’t literally come from the Dutch town of Dalfsen, but Walter Chrysler did. The ancestor who came to America from Dalfsen was named Jan. His last name underwent as many changes as the Chrysler models: Dalsen, Dolzen, Dolsen, but eventually Martha Dolsen married William Henry Chrysler. And before we knew it, Walter was born.
What a car maker he was!
Huh? Built beautiful skyscrapers, too? No, Walter didn’t build the Chrysler Building himself. Willem van Alen did that for him. His roots were from Utrecht.
