HER last name was originally Van Steenbergen, but they didn’t hail from the town by that name. Their roots were in Sint Anthonis, also in Brabant, where Grandpa Dirck was a baron. He had a son Pieter, and that boy moved to Virginia.
Mary Steenburgen has an incredibly long track record on the silver screen and TV, a career that began after Jack Nicholson saw her sitting in a waiting room somewhere. But many people know her primarily as Ted Danson’s wife – which is a bit odd.
More than 20 years ago, she woke up from a surgery on her arm, and heard music in her head that she just couldn’t get to stop. She took music lessons so that at least she could get it all scored on paper, and became a songwriter, with some fifty compositions now registered to her name. If you want to know how good she is, check out Jessie Buckley, singing “Glasgow”.
