95 YEARS ago, the Foshay skyscraper was completed in Minneapolis. At 32 stories, it was the tallest tower in the Midwest.
Two months later, the Great Depression broke out. Wilbur Foshay went bankrupt. He was a descendant of the Van Nagel family of Groningen.
Foshay went on trial for stock fraud, but he had a friend on the jury. She was the only one who said he was innocent. That news leaked. The girlfriend fled together with her husband and kids and killed them and herself using carbon monoxide. Wilbur Foshay then was convicted after all and ended up in jail. There are today 19 skyscrapers taller than Hotel Foshay in Minneapolis.
