The Dutch drink more coffee per capita than Americans, British and French combined. No wonder Starbucks was started by Alfred Peet of Alkmaar, that Folger’s was originally the brainchild of Willem Bovee of Amsterdam, and that the Boersma brothers of Dutch Bros hail from their grandfather in Dantumadeel.
So when two Maine students became America’s biggest coffee maker producer, they called it Keurig. Their dictionary said that it was the Dutch word for Excellence. That dictionary is out of print now, but not Keurig. The guys sold that to Dr. Pepper.
